Native to Kansas, the Eastern Red Cedar has terrorized the central region of the U.S. from South Dakota to Oklahoma since new land management practices led to a decrease in controlled fires, allowing forests of this invasive tree species to spread. Because they grow year-round in 40+ degree temperatures and a variety of precipitation conditions, these trees pose threats to surrounding grasslands by intercepting rainfall and fueling wildfires.

The Niobrara River Valley, which runs through Wyoming and Nebraska, is one area that teems with Eastern Red Cedars. Situated in the heart of this valley, Springview, NE experienced horrific wildfires during the summer of 2012 because of the trees’ flammable foliage, thin bark, and propensity for containing oils. That disaster inspired Andrew Steinhauser to found Elkhorn Pine Tree Services and Whitetail Solutions to provide affordable tree clearing services to help residents fight future threats.

Ten years later, Steinhauser is still going strong, helping customers in the area optimize the productivity of their agricultural land and recreational property through effective land clearing and maintenance. Among his most trusted tools is a Diamond Mowers’ 48” SK Disc Mulcher Pro X. Ideal for brush clearing and rural land management applications, this disc mulcher is engineered to efficiently slice through brush and trees up to 14” in diameter and effectively mulch the same materials up to 6” in diameter. Its high-performance disc acts like a flywheel to store energy and combines it with hydraulic power to enable operators to tackle virtually anything in their path.

“Since purchasing our disc mulcher, there hasn’t been a tree it couldn’t handle,” said Steinhauser. “Going from a tree shear to Diamond’s 48” forestry head has enabled me to clear land quickly and more efficiently than before. It’s a true workhorse of an attachment.”

Steinhauser’s experience using Diamond’s attachments goes back a few years to when he purchased a brush cutter for clearing small branches and trees and managing vegetation overgrowth. When the time came to invest in new land clearing and brush cutting machinery, he knew Diamond was the clear-cut choice and headed straight to Mitchell Equipment, an authorized CASE IH dealership and long-time Diamond Mowers dealer in nearby Atkinson.

“The sales and parts teams at Mitchell Equipment are very personable,” explained Steinhauser. “It’s great to call and for them to know who you are. It’s especially nice that they’re so well-informed about all of Diamond’s products.”

As for Diamond’s customer service, “It’s been nothing but the best,” noted Steinhauser. “They’ve been able to answer any questions I’ve had and explain which attachments are best for my machine (a New Holland skid-steer).”

Also offered in a 60” cutting width, Diamond’s disc mulcher attachments are available with three motor options and two choices of mulching teeth. The tools are compatible with standard- and high-flow hydraulic skid-steers or compact track loaders and deliver reliable, quality results with each use.

“Diamond’s products are built with top-quality in mind,” he explained. “They are very durable and dependable and can help with projects of varying degrees, from large forestry jobs to preserving local properties.”
