Diamond Mowers’ customer, James Cook, of Cook Land & Habitat Solutions, shared his experience with Diamond’s Skid-Steer Forestry Disc Mulcher for vegetation management.
My name is James Cook, and my team is from Eastern Oklahoma near Lake Eufaula. Our company is Cook Land & Habitat Solutions. We specialize in undergrowth removal and pasture reclamation. Our emphasis is on hunting and recreational property upkeep and maintenance.
Our team consists of myself and an Ecologist – Jake Swanson. He is an Oklahoma State University grad pursuing his masters at Nacogdoches State. He is the brains behind all of our habitat projects, and I keep everything rolling smoothly on the ground. I use the Skid-Steer Forestry Disc Mulcher daily. It fits nicely in this saturated market between the heavy-duty brush cutters and the drum mulchers. For what we do, it is the ideal tool. From cutting shooting lanes, reclaiming pasture, clearing underbrush, and all the way to development property mulching, it gets the job done.
Our goal is to give the client the biggest bang for their buck, and we do. 60% of our business is repeat clients, and I am very proud of that.
"The disc mulcher allows us to keep cutting without stopping, which makes our clients extremely happy with our
production level."
We initially started out running heavy-duty brush cutters but were limited on the size of trees we could take down, so we would have to swap attachments constantly. The disc mulcher allows us to keep cutting without stopping, which makes our clients extremely happy with our production level.
A typical undergrowth project for us will consist of juvenile Elm and Cedar trees. For controlled thinning projects, we use it on similar smaller trees, and various breeds of hardwoods (Oak, Hickory, etc.)
We would definitely recommend Diamond. It’s the most heavy-duty piece of equipment I own and the most reliable. There is a different size hammer for every task, but this will do it all.
